About Me
I’m Jan Schmid, a visual artist, and creator based in Germany. Better known by my social media handle, jankschmid, my artistic medium focuses on graphic game design art.
I am adept at both 2D and 3D game assets. While I started as a hobby artist, I began working professionally in the game design field in the last six years. I graduated from SRH Fachschulen Stuttgart Technical School in 2020 focusing on Game Information and Multimedia Development Informatics. Since graduation, I have been working as a 3D Designer and freelance artist.
I primarily work as a Hard Surface Artist but am often referred to as an “allrounder,” as I am experienced in all aspects of 2D and 3D game assets. Within the 3D game industry, I have a deep understanding of the industry standard for 3D modeling and rendering but take expectations above and beyond into emerging technologies and trends. I have developed the 3D aspects of many games including rendering and animating characters, props, vehicles, and environments. My design skills are versatile and can adjust to any aesthetic and style based on the game. I have created vehicles and weapons in fashions from World War Two era to steampunk to futuristic and more. I also am adept at creating environments that will transport players into completely new realms. Beyond the 3D realm, I am also experienced with 2D creation and design. I enjoy character modeling and creating NFTs, where I can play with concept art, texturizing, and painting to create engaging products. I enjoy working closely with game design artists and animators to create a successful product. My love for games makes me a wonderful team player who is able to meet all deadlines and cooperate with my team.
I currently serve as the Lead Hard-Surface Artist at 314 Arts, an indie-development studio based in Germany. My most recent project with 314 Arts is Projekt Z, a free-to-play first-person shooter game combining World War Two with a Zombie occurrence on a remote German island. In my free time, I enjoy freelance projects. I created Drippies, a unique collection of NFTs and lifestyle brand, with artist and animator Florian Tappeser and team. The Drippieverse is a platform combining digital NFTs with physical collectibles to create aesthetic experiences and community within the Web 3.0 space. I created artwork for Wobblebug, a tokenized musician and alter-ego of Grammy-nominated artist and DJ, Wuki. Wobblebug is the first tokenized musician, using the NFTs to allow fans to become stakeholders in the music career. These emerging creative projects have been exciting to pursue and continue to inspire my practice. I often lead online workshops and tutorials on 3D modeling, sharing my knowledge with larger communities. My passion for game design continues to guide my creative path.
